L-Series Rail Grinders

Rail is the single most valuable asset of most railways. The wheel/rail interface of any railroad is a sophisticated and much talked about subject, primarily because of the huge cost involved in rail change-outs. Typical problems encountered on heavy haul lines include shelling, spalling, side wear, plastic flow, dipped welds, corrugation, and fatigue. Transit lines face these as well as unique challenges of noise and ride quality. Rail grinding is considered the single most effective maintenance practice to control surface conditions, restore profile, and maximize value from the rail asset. Loram offers a series of rail grinders that are flexible enough to work on a variety of transit, short line, or Class I railroads while powerful enough to perform the necessary maintenance within tight work schedules - the Loram L-Series Rail grinders.

Mobility

The most noticeable attribute of the L-Series is it's mobility. The Hy-rail power unit with a 4-stone grind cart can be rapidly transported at highway speeds to reach the work site. This machine quickly maneuvers on and off the track at any standard grade crossing. The L-Series is also available with a rail bound power car that may be combined with 4-stone or larger grinding carts. This increases the power and speed while maintaining highway portability. The MPC power car with carts loaded can travel unrestricted in a rail revenue train.

Versatility

By adapting advancements made with Loram's mainline grinders, the L-Series Grinder combines the productivity of heavy haul technology with the agility of transit grinding. With its unique design, the L-Series performs within most flangeway or field side clearance obstructions and is gauge convertible. The L-Series also has an integrated dust collection system, and a special noise-suppression system. Versatility is further increased by the dual grinding capabilities of the L-Series. The combination of Type II and Loram's patented offset grinding gives the most flexibility possible to tailor the job to specific system needs. Whether grinding is for corrugation removal, mill scale removal on new rail, switches, crossings, imbedded rail, tunnels, open rail spots, or profiling - the L-Series does it all.
