Loram is proud to run a United Way campaign in its workplace. Last year, because of the caring spirit of the employees, Loram raised $88,611 to help advance the common good in the community in which we all live and work. Loram is excited about the opportunity to do even more. For thousands of people in the Twin Cities, the basics of a good life are increasingly beyond reach:
• Over 360,000 people in the nine-county region live in households struggling to put food on the table.
• Healthcare premiums in Minnesota have risen approximately 40 percent since 2002; nearly 80,000 children in the state are without health insurance.
• Only half of Minnesota kindergarteners are fully prepared for kindergarten on their first day of school.
Lasting change requires new solutions and different approaches. Therefore, United Way has changed the way it works and expanded its toolbox beyond the crucial work of funding high-quality programs in community agencies to include other strategies such as redesigning service systems, coordinating multi-sector partnerships, educating policy makers, and engaging volunteers significantly. These strategies are the foundation for the Agenda for Lasting Change. United Way's Agenda for Lasting Change focuses on 10 measureable goals in three critical areas: Meeting Basic Needs, Supporting Health and Independence, and Nurturing Children and Families. United Way is strongly committed to having a deep and lasting impact because it is the only way to ensure real change. They hold themselves and others accountable to the highest standards.
The Loram United Way kick-off events begin on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Loram headquarters where Loram employees will learn more about the new United Way campaign and how each person can support this worthy program.
