Earlier this summer (2008) the Loss Control Department of the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, Loram’s W/C and business auto insurer, asked and was granted permission to conduct a comprehensive safety survey and analysis of the Loram Company. It is standard departmental practice to have periodic external audits run to identify areas of safety program improvement. This survey was conducted by a representative of the Liberty Loss Control Group and was based on several field machinery visits and interviews with hourly, managerial and executive employees. It also included a formal review of the safety program and it’s standard operating procedure documents.
The Fore-Cast acronym stands for Focused Organizational Risk Evaluation; Comprehensive Analysis of Strategies and Tactics. The survey ranks ten different dimensions, from Leadership and Administration to Motor Vehicle operations, and the final score is an average compilation of all ten areas.
The results of the audit were presented to Loram Executive Management by the Liberty Mutual Representative in a meeting held in September, where it was learned that the company received a 97% “Excellent” score, which is the highest score achieved by any company in the nation. This high score, in conjunction with the company’s excellent record in controlling both lost time and recordable injuries resulted in the surprise presentation of award plaques for recognition of the company’s safety efforts. There were two plaques presented, one for the Manufacturing and one for the Operations Group.
